Anna and Alex’s Italian Inspired Art Gallery Wedding

Picture yourself under the beautiful Italian sun, staring at the rolling hills of tall olive trees, sipping on a great glass of wine, and eating delicious food. This is the ambiance of Anna & Alex’s Italian inspired art gallery wedding that took place last June at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
I am lucky enough to call Anna and Alex my cousins. Not being separated by many years from Anna, we grew up together and when she got engaged to Alex after dating for 10 years, it was an honour to be asked to help plan their special day and the events leading up to it.

The planning process

Anna, being one of the middle children in our family, immediately knew that she didn’t want the “traditional” big Italian wedding at a large venue. She desired something different and unique that would speak to both her and Alex’s personalities. When we originally visited the AGO, I got the sense Anna loved it! Alex wasn’t able to attend so they went back for another visit and once he saw how much Anna’s eyes sparkled, they had found their venue.
Anna and Alex are both foodies so the meal was an extremely important aspect. The entire process from beginning to end with the AGO was perfectly coordinated. Anna and Alex wanted food that was unique and tasty but not traditional. Part of the process with the AGO was working to design a menu that reflected their likes/dislikes and their cultural traditions; Anna is Italian and Alex is Danish/German. It was something I as a planner was really blown away by and so were they! They put so much time and thought into all aspects of the menu, you knew the guests were going to be in for a special treat.
Once we had the big items picked out, choosing the right florist and decorator became really important to Anna and Alex because they wanted their vision to be modern, elegant, and timeless. Upon meeting Rachel Clingen, they knew right away that she was the perfect person to design their wedding. What a wedding she designed! Their day was everything they wanted and more! Even though they weren’t specific about the exact colours or design that was ok because Rachel understood them perfectly and created the most beautiful ceremony and reception.

The wedding day

Anna and Alex’s wedding day started off getting ready at The Broadview Hotel. Their photographer, Scarlet O’Neill, captured their first look at the hotel and then they proceeded to the venue to take photos with their bridal party and family before the ceremony. Anna and Alex will tell you one of the moments they both loved was their ceremony. The ceremony took place in Walker Court. The space is architecturally stunning and was one of the first things they fell in love with when we were considering the venue.
The space was made even more beautiful by the flowers and decor provided by Rachel Clingen and her team. They worked with Linda Stuart, their celebrant, who was able to build a ceremony that was unique and personalized from start to finish. Linda did an amazing job tailoring it to highlight their love story. She also helped them craft personalized vows. It was a great start to an extraordinary evening!

The Reception

Following the Italian inspired art gallery wedding ceremony, guests were taken to Galleria Italia where they had cocktail hour while Stereoflavour’s band played music. The finishing details were being put together in Ballie Court and before the rush of guests, Anna and Alex were able to take a look at what Rachel created. It was beautiful! The details were all there from the menu perfectly coordinating with the table numbers and seeing rows of stunning flowers. Guests sat between olive trees and were treated to a delicious meal. Beautiful speeches and dances filled the evening, by the early morning guests didn’t want to stop having fun! It was truly a spectacular wedding for two amazing people.
